Oh dear the perils of having a perfectionist in the family. Caitlin has always been the child to have to get it right. Even when tiny she refused to try to do things in case she couldn't do it, and always asked me to do her activities so they would be right. She so takes after Terry! Today she got all upset at Jazz cause she was having trouble with a certain step and her teacher asked her to repeat it. She was convinced that the teacher didn't like her and that she would never get it right. There were tears and snot everywhere. (And vomit but we had Asha to thank for that.) I tried so hard to convince her that in 2 weeks she could hardly expect to be doing what the other girls had been doing all year, and that she had been doing ballet all year and was as good as the others girls, so all she needed was more time and practice and she would be as good as the others at jazz. I don't know what else to do, she is the one who wants to do this thing and then is devestated cause she can't do it straight away. My poor baby, I just wish that she would do something cause she loves it, but she refuses to try! The day before she even said that she didn't want to do ballet, she wanted to stay home and do fun things. Of course when she stays home all she wants to do is sit in front of the TV and eat.
I really struggle with the perfectionist streak in her, just like I do with Terry. He's better than he used to be, but still... And Caitlin is so inclined to do nothing than to try something new, out of fear of getting it wrong (in her eyes). We praise the heck out of her no matter what she does and she knows that we love her no matter what, but I just want to see her happy and taking hold of life with two hands, rather than hiding away in case it's too hard.

Michelle our Nicholas was pretty much the same, he'd wait til he could do something properly before he'd actually do it. *sigh* So hard. He's a high achiever but we've really tried hard to make him feel comfortable with "making mistakes" too. He's much better that when he was your Caitlins age so chin up sweetie, it will get better I'm sure! :-)
Hugs!
