More updatey-ness

And yes I do know that that is not a word.

But anyway, I figured that Caitlin figured rather prominently in my last post so I would add some more about the rest of the fam. Terry is as busy as a bee at the moment, lots and lots of work on, involving lots of running around. Fortunatley not too much travelling recently (apple ran out of travel budget for a while there), there was one trip to Cairns early in the month, and there will be another early next month. But he's pretty happy with where things stand at the moment and feels he's really getting a handle on his new position.

Joshua is Joshua. He's busy and alternates cute with insane and annoying and funny. Sometimes all together. He's still mister social and ALWAYS wants to go somewhere, and see someone. It's really handy having two little boys his age 2 doors up. They spend a huge amount of time going back and forth between houses and mostly they get along like a house on fire. I've started the preparations for school for him next year, have signed up for the resource scheme and organised his time in a prep class in the middle of next month.

Asha baby is seriously cute, but undergoing that transformation to a 2 year old. She is an adorable toddler, and enjoys being outside, loves being with people. She is picking up new words every day, surprising me when she does. Just yesterday she echoed "Apple" and "Pear". She is a great eater, and colds and molars aside, a good sleeper. One of her molars is through, the others are taking their time. She had a nasty cold last week, with the usual bad nights for all concerned. Fortunately she seems to be past that though.

We did have a death in the family late last week though. Terry thought it a good idea to leave our baby chickens (Night-time, Steggles and Ingham) in the coop one day. After a few hours he went to check on them, to find them not there. There was evidence of a nasty encounter though. Terry was really upset, and came to tell me. I was pretty upset myself, but coldn't believe that a bird could take out all three chicks. So after a bit of hunting around (largely motivated by not wanting the kids to find a mangled carcass) I uncovered Night-Time and Steggles hiding out under some leafy plants. Wow, we were so relieved. Sad that Ingham met a nasty end (what a rotten way to go), but so happy that we still had two of our little brood. Needless to say, we have been pretty protective of them since then, and when we heard and saw some crows acting aggressively while the chicks were outside under a basket, we brought them in super fast and shooed the crows. Wondering if it was crows that took Ingham, rather than the hawk that we initially thought. WE told the kids that Ingham just disappeared after being out in the coop (coulldn't face telling them the whole truth) and that we didn't know where she was. That we looked and looked (the truth) but could only find the other two. They coped surprisingly well, though Caitlin did make Terry take her next door so they could check that garden for a potential escapee.

Henny Penny and chicken Little are doing well, and totally enjoying having the run of the back yard.

Had fun today after a boring morning. We ended up going out as a family to do the fruit and veg shopping and then took a side trip via Bunnings to buy an electric hedge trimmer. This afternoon, since fine weather is the forecast, I used the spray pack and tank water to do some lawn Weed and Feeding, and Terry tested out the hedge trimmer and had a fair bit of fun doing it. Certainly made short work of the hedges that he attacked, one heck of a lot faster and more effective than using the hedge shears.

Made corned beef for dinner, and after Asha finished hers (I had mushed hers up in the happy chopper) she started asking for "More!" So Terry gave her a straight piece of meat. She was a bit dubious to start with, and then chowed down and kept asking for more and more and more!! So funny. Even the kids seemed to enjoy their dinner a lot tonight - there isn't much left of the corned beef!

Anyway, I have dishes to do. Later :)

Your poor little chickadee. :( Kinda glad the kids weren't the ones to discover it though. Had a giggle at their names, too too cute. They're getting quite big now aren't they!!
